Ellen Swartz Simpson is a member of the firm, representing clients in the areas of intellectual property law and federal litigation.
Ms. Simpson received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting cum laude from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Upon graduation, she worked as a senior staff accountant with Sokolski, Sutherland & Lyons, C.P.A and became licensed in New York as a Certified Public Accountant. Ms. Simpson was Comptroller of The Faculty-Student Association at the State University College of New York at Buffalo and subsequently became Comptroller and Secretary-Treasurer of Jim Culligan, Inc. While working in this capacity, she attended The State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law, graduating magna cum laude, and received the Robert J. Connelly award for excellence in the trial practice course. Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Simpson became confidential law clerk to United States Magistrate Judge Leslie G. Foschio of the Western District of New York, a position she held for seven years.
During the course of her career, Ms. Simpson has been privileged to represent a wide variety of clients in intellectual property matters, including Rich Products Corporation, Independent Health Association, NanoDynamics, Nu-Gro America Corporation, Strippit, Inc., and Nitram Energy, Inc. Ms. Simpson also handles a variety of matters for foreign law firms seeking intellectual property protection for their clients in the United States.
Ms. Simpson is admitted to practice in New York and Florida. She is past Treasurer of the Bar Association of Erie County. Ms. Simpson is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the International Trademark Association, New York State Bar Association, the Florida State Bar, the Bar Association of Erie County, and the Amherst Business and Professional Women's Association. Ellen is also on the Board of Directors of the New York State Civil and Criminal Lawyers Association. In addition to her professional affiliations, Ellen has for several years performed in the Erie County Bar Revue, a musical production produced by members of the Erie and Niagara County Bars. Ellen is also a member of the Acappellants, a group of four Western New York lawyers who represent the Bar Association of Erie County nationwide singing a cappella parodies related to legal cases and issues.
