Biography

While Thomas J. Colson is a registered patent attorney with deep experience in both prosecution and litigation, that’s not what makes him uniquely qualified to fulfill your IP needs. He is differentiated because of his years of hands-on experience in building businesses.  Why?  Because IP lawyers exist solely to support the business goals of clients. Having built and run several IP-centric businesses, Mr. Colson is in a unique position to understand your needs and provide cost effective solutions.

Mr. Colson has been involved in every phase of commercializing new ideas from invention to securing venture rounds to product development to sales/marketing to profitability. Simply, unlike most other IP attorneys, Mr. Colson has personally leveraged innovation and intellectual property to build global companies.

Mr. Colson received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Canisius College in 1985, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University at Buffalo School of Law in 1988. Mr. Colson received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University at Buffalo in 1994.

Mr. Colson is also the President and General Counsel of Executive IP, a company providing video-based e-learning related to intellectual property and corporate risk training.
